The famous yearly Char Dham Yatra will begin from 13th
of this month.
What is Char Dham
Yatra?
It is a kind of pilgrimage tour to the four places of
significance in Hindu religion and Scriptures. The Yatra begins in summer with
the opening of Kapats (doors) of Yamnotri Dham (situated at the height of 3165
Mtrs above sea level) then passes from Gangotri (3140 Mtrs) both Situated in
the District of Uttarkashi then to Kedarnath Dham (3584 Mtrs) in the District
of Rudraprayag and it ends at Badrinath (3133 Mtrs) in the District of Chamoli.
Though the route mentioned has religious significance and is
followed from the ancient time but generally most of the peoples coming as
tourists not necessarily follow this.
Dates and special
timings of the Char Dham Yatra:
Yamnotri- 13th May, 12:15 pm
Gangotri- 13th May, 2:25 pm
Kedarnath- 14th May, 7 am
Badrinath- 16 May, 4 am
Government provide facilities of medical camps, public
toilets Police etc. at different points along the route.
Green cards are issued by the Uttarakhand state
transport departments to the vehicles being used in the Char Dham Yatra. These
are issued to the Jeeps, Buses etc .as a proof of their proper functioning and
suitability for running on the hilly and dangerous route of the Yatra.
Other state vehicle drivers must have Hill area driving
license before they can ply on the Char Dham Yatra route.
Trucks and Bikes are not allowed to reach HemKunth
Sahib during the Yatra season.
Travel agents cannot charge more than the stipulated
rates from the tourists.
There will be checking of the vehicles on the route of the
Yatra.
